Growing up, Jamie was a timid girl who had trouble speaking up, feeling comfortable in her own skin, and dealt with anxiety and depression up until her teen years. Her outlet during this time up until her early 20’s was dance. The physical activity and self expression was the best coping mechanism to help shut her brain off and “get lost in the moment”. While dance was still her passion, when the time came to choose where to further her eduction, she ventured down the route of fashion design, where unlikely enough, she discovered yoga.
Jamie took her first yoga class while attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, New York out of obligation to fill her P.E. requirement. Yoga seemed like a great way to help manage the stress of college, and that it would be familiar enough since she was coming from a dance background. What she found in yoga was exactly what she was looking for, but also so much more. Not only was yoga a great workout for the physical body, but a “work in” for the mind.
After graduation, Jamie turned to yoga once again when her boyfriend, now husband, went on a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. As cliche as it sounds, they both were in need to “find themselves” again. Jamie dove head first into yoga to help gain her confidence and discover exactly who she is. Not only did she see physical results, but she gained mental strength and clarity. So much so, she discovered that she wanted to teach yoga in hopes to help others.
In 2016, Jamie attended 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training from Lotus Gardens in Connecticut, her home state. Now living in Knoxville, Jamie has over 1,000 hours of experience from teaching group and private classes to both adults and children. She loves to incorporate her dance background into all classes she teaches, and hopes to always inspire students to help them work towards their highest potential, no matter what their goals are.
